Changes to Richmond’s parking services go into effect July 7

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Rate changes for the City of Richmond's parking services will go into effect starting Monday.

According to a release from the city shared on Thursday, July 3, the city's Parking Enterprise Division will implement parking fees for fiscal year 2026, after the city council approved the annual budget in May. This reportedly includes meter and ticketing fees, among others and will go into effect on Monday, July 7.

Rates include the following:

  • An increase of parking meter fees by $.50, from $2.00 to $2.50 per hour. This creates turnover parking, allowing more short-term options in high-demand areas.
  • An increase in the penalty for exceeding a metered time limit, from $25 to $30.
  • An increase, from $40 to $50, in the penalty for parking on a sidewalk, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, in front of a public or private driveway or any other location in violation of section 27-197 of the City Code.
  • An increase of $5 for monthly parking fees in city-owned garages.
