Chesterfield County Fire and EMS encourages residents to blow out their candles after house fire
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County Fire and EMS are asking residents to extinguish their candles after a Wednesday morning house fire.
Just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to the 21000 block of Genito Road for a reported house fire.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the home and a small fire in one of the bedrooms.
Officials said there were no reported injuries, but said the cause of the house fire was a candle that was left unattended.
According to the fire department, one-third of all candle fires in the U.S. begin in the bedroom, with three out of every five candle fires starting when items, or objects that can burn are close to candles.
