Chesterfield crash involves vehicle carrying soil testing equipment with ‘very small’ amount of radioactive material
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A crash occurred in Chesterfield Friday morning, involving a vehicle carrying soil testing equipment that contains a "very small" amount of radioactive material, prompting a response from Chesterfield County Fire and EMS’s Hazmat Team.
At 9:51 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS announced on social media that its Hazmat Team was on the scene of a crash on Hull Street Road near Fox Club Parkway.
Officials said one of the vehicles involved in the crash was carrying a common piece of engineering equipment used to test compacted soil that contains a "very small amount" of radioactive material.
The post said the equipment was contained inside several containers, none of which appear to be damaged.

There is reportedly no risk to the community, but the immediate area surrounding the crash has been isolated until Hazmat crews can further assess the equipment for any possible damage.
At 11:13 a.m. on Friday, all lanes of Hull Street Road are now open and the scene is clear, according to VDOT.
