Hopewell City Public Schools food services worker dies after more than a decade of service

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- A Hopewell City Public Schools food services worker died last week, school officials confirmed Tuesday.

On Tuesday, April 7, the school division announced that Ernestine Epps Shaw died on Tuesday, March 31, after serving in the district's food services from 2008 to 2024, according to a social post.

Officials said services will be held at noon on Saturday, April 11 at Mt. Hope Baptist Church, located at 10300 Lawyers Road in Prince George County.

"It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that Hopewell City Public Schools announces the passing of one of our own, Ernestine Epps Shaw," school officials wrote in the post. "Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers."

The Rev. Clarence M. Thweatt, Jr., who is a local pastor, will serve as eulogist, according to officials.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery, before a viewing will be held an hour before the church service.
