Uncover Richmond’s hidden stories with The Valentine’s history tour

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Valentine has launched its spring 2026 Richmond History tours for community members to explore various hidden gems of the city.

The Valentine announced in a press release that starting Thursday, April 9, the 2026 Richmond History Tours season will begin, with over 100 ways to discover Richmond with expert tour guides. This year's lineup features stories and places that have shaped Richmond's past and present.

The tours will be available every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and will offer a mix of walking, biking and bus opportunities. Participants will have the chance to witness the many layers of the city's growing story by visiting iconic landmarks and hidden stories.

“We’re always thinking about how to keep these experiences fresh, even for people who have taken our tours before,” said Sophia McCrimmon, adult programs and tours manager. “From the return of our cycling tours to new opportunities like a behind-the-scenes look at CarMax Park on our baseball history bus tour, this season is all about offering something unexpected.”

The tours will feature the following, according to the press release:

  • Walking tours in various neighborhoods that will feature new perspectives, including "Women of the Gilded Age: Monroe Ward, Warehouse to High Rise: Scott’s Addition, Murals of Jackson Ward, and Pride and Protest: Carytown," per the release.
  • Highlights of Hollywood Cemetery: will show an in-depth look into this iconic Richmond landmark that features scenic views of the James River and the legacies of famous Virginians.
  • East End Bike Tours: attendees will visit the neighborhoods such as Chimborazo and Union Hill on a bike.
  • Richmond and Baseball Bus Tour: On Saturday, April 25, participants will discover Richmond's long connection to baseball, from the historic teams to the future of the sport.
  • Dissent! A Revolutionary Bus Tour: On Sunday, June 28, uncover the lesser-known stories from the Revolutionary era. Perspectives of Loyalists, free Black Richmonders and enslved people who fought for independence will be highlighted.
  • History Hounds Tours: This tour is in partnership with the Richmond SPCA and offers a tour that is dog-friendly through neighborhoods such as Church Hill, Ginter Park and the Museum District.
