Chesterfield crews rescue injured hiker on Old Rag Mountain in Madison County
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An injured 67-year-old woman hiking on a mountain at Shenandoah National Park in Madison County was rescued by a helicopter medical crew flying out of Chesterfield County on Monday afternoon.
At around 4:15 p.m. on Monday, March 31, Med-Flight 1 -- staffed with Virginia State Police Aircraft Pilot Curt Conlin and Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crew members Anja Hamilton and Lt. Greg Jones -- rescued a 67-year-old woman who was injured hiking while on Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park, officials with Virginia State Police said.
After being notified by the National Park Service, Med-Flight 1 left its base in Chesterfield County at around 3:40 p.m. They then flew about 80 miles to the rescue site.
With severe thunderstorms expected to arrive after 5 p.m. on Monday afternoon, state police said "the rescue was time sensitive."
The woman was taken to an area hospital, where she is receiving treatment for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Tuesday, April 1, marks the 41st anniversary of the start of the Med-Flight-1 program.
