Chesterfield family speaks out after daughter hit by car during Christmas celebration
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Chesterfield family is recovering after their nine-year-old daughter was struck by a car during a Christmas event earlier this month. Sheetal and Kaushal Davé, the parents of Neeti Davé, told 8News it occurred on December 6, while the family and neighbors were gathered to celebrate the holiday season. Sheetal recalls witnessing the horrifying moment when Neeti was hit by a truck and sent flying several feet into the air. "She was not responding for a good four, five minutes," Sheetal said. "I don't know what I was going through at that time….I cannot describe. It's hard." Neeti, who was excited to greet Santa with her friends and family, was severely injured in the accident. Her injuries include damage to her liver, spleen, lungs, ribs, feet and face. In addition, she suffered a concussion. While she has begun her recovery, Neeti still requires assistance with basic activities, such as going up and down stairs and sitting up. In the chaos following the accident, Sheetal was holding her 3-year-old son’s hand and doesn’t remember much of what happened, but vividly recalls the moment she ran to her daughter’s side. "I just wanted to get her up. I just wanted her to answer me. It was traumatic for all of us, for all the kids who started screaming and crying. No one knew what to do," Sheetal described. "I just dialed 911 and gave it to one of my neighbors to talk, I couldn't talk." The screams of other children in the vicinity heightened the terror of the situation. Neeti was quickly transported to the hospital, where she spent several days receiving treatment. Despite the severity of her injuries, Neeti’s parents say they are grateful for her bravery and progress. "She has been holding up very bravely, she has been fighting through it bravely," Kaushal said. "She's recovering and slowly getting better." The Davé family expressed their immense gratitude for the support they’ve received from their community, including the other families in the neighborhood and Neeti's school. Though shaken by the incident, the family is relieved that Neeti is recovering and appreciates the outpouring of love and support from friends, neighbors and the Chesterfield community during this challenging time. For now, the Davé family is focused on Neeti’s healing journey, grateful that their daughter is on the road to recovery.
