Chesterfield firefighters battle series of small brush fires along railroad tracks

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County firefighters battled a series of small brush fires along some railroad tracks Wednesday night.

The night of Wednesday, April 16, firefighters with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to the railroad tracks along the 14500 block of Route 1 for report of a brush fire.

Firefighters spent an extended period of time putting out a series of small brush fires. According to fire officials, the area was somewhat difficult to access, making it harder for crews to respond.

A spokesperson for CSX confirmed that its area trains were being held in the Walthall area due to a fire as of 9:44 p.m. Wednesday night.

As of about 10:15 p.m., firefighters remain at the scene monitoring potential hotspots.
