Chesterfield parents charged with child neglect after 4-year-old son drowns in pool
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two Chesterfield County parents have been charged with child neglect after their son drowned in a community pool in June.
On Tuesday, July 29, 38-year-old Ramy Shorky and 27-year-old Marlien Nasim -- both of Chesterfield -- were charged with felony child neglect after their 4-year-old son drowned on June 9.
At about 1:40 p.m. on Monday, June 9, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department were called to a community pool in the 700 block of City View Loop for a report of a possible drowning.
When they arrived, first responders started to give the child life-saving measures.
He was then taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died, according to authorities.
Shakry and Nasim were arrested and taken to the Chesterfield County Jail on Tuesday, July 29. Both have been released on bond.
This boy is just one of several children under 5 who have drowned in Virginia pools so far this year.
