Chesterfield Police officer shot in leg when responding to reported domestic assault

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Chesterfield Police officer is injured after he was shot in the leg when responding to a domestic assault call Friday morning.

Shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, June 27, Chesterfield County Police Department officers responded to a domestic assault call in the 5200 block of Whetstone Road.

Police said an officer was shot in the leg while responding to the call and was taken to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

After a "brief" barricade situation, officials said the suspect was taken into custody by police at 7 a.m. on Friday.

Police said charges against the suspect are pending.

No other injuries were reported, according to police. Officials continue to investigate.
