Classic rock band America to perform at Richmond’s Dominion Energy Center

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- America, the classic rock band, will be performing at Richmond's Dominion Energy Center in mid-June.

On Jan. 27, Dominion Energy Center announced that well-known 1970s rock band America will be coming to Richmond on Friday, June 19, with tickets going on sale Friday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m.

This year's tour follows their 55th anniversary tour, where they performed across the U.S.

America was formed in the late 1960s and rose to fame quickly with their hit song "A Horse With No Name," and won Best New Artist at the 1972 Grammy Awards.

Their other well-known songs include "I Need You," "Ventura Highway" and "Don't Cross The River." America's music combines multiple genres such as country rock, folk-jazz and Latin rhythms with personal lyrics, according to the release.

Recently, the band released a documentary, "I Need You: 53 Years Of The Band America," that shows the audience as Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell separate after traveling together. Beckley is still a member of America but retired from touring in 2024, while Bunnel still travels across the U.S. performing.
