What to expect at first-ever Richmond Renaissance Faire this month

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News got a visit from two special guests on Monday to talk about what attendees can expect at the first-ever Richmond Renaissance Faire coming to the city later this month.

8News anchor Autumn Childress was joined by organizers Amanda Robinson and Ash More with the Richmond Ren Faire. They discussed what's in store for attendees at the inaugural event on April 18 and April 19, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., at Dorey Park.

Organizers said they're expecting 7,500 guests for each day of the celebration, which will span over 14 acres and five stages. The faire will also bring to life two equestrian fields for equestrian, jousting and archery demonstrations.

"We're living in a world where people are longing for connection with each other, we're caught up in our screens all the time," Moore said. "So taking a moment to step back in and [finding] ways to re-engage with practices that get you working with your hands and engaging with your community, I think that's why this project is so special."

Participants will have the chance to win a sword crafted by Join or Die Knives at a fundraising kickoff event in March last year. Proceeds from the raffle go toward the artists hired for the event.

Organizers said the "hyperlocal" event will bring together more than 100 artisan and food vendors, as well as local performers, artists and cultural organizations. There will be historic demonstrations throughout both days with roaming character actors that create an immersive environment throughout the faire.
