Coal train derails in Bremo Bluff area of Fluvanna County

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A coal train derailed in the Bremo Bluff area of Fluvanna County Tuesday morning. At 4:53 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Fluvanna County Emergency Communications Center was notified by CSX that a coal train traveling along the southeastern border of the county had derailed. The Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office said multiple loaded coal cars had overturned. Personnel from the sheriff's office, Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department's Palmyra and Fork Union Fire Companies and Fluvanna County Emergency Services responded to the derailment. Officials said there were no injuries reported and no immediate environmental concerns have been found. Traffic is not affected, and the sheriff's office said there is no ongoing risk to residents and visitors. A cause for the derailment has not yet been found. CSX personnel were on the scene Tuesday morning to evaluate recovery and cleanup plans.
