Construction worker stuck in 15-foot deep hole rescued by Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A construction worker was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after crews rescued him from a 15-foot deep hole in Chesterfield County on Friday. Just after 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews responded to a call for a confined space rescue at the intersection of Lake Eloise Loop and Idylwood Drive, off of Genito Road. According to officials, the first firefighters that arrived on scene found a construction worker, injured, inside of a 15-foot deep hole. Members of Chesterfield Fire's Urban Search and Rescue and Technical Rescue Teams were called in to help get the worker out of the hole. Officials said it took a little over an hour to safely extricate the construction worker from the hole, and he was flown by MedFlight to a local hospital with serious injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
