Diversity Richmond to hold Community Town Hall listening session after sexual harassment claims
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Diversity Richmond is hosting a Community Town Hall listening session on Tuesday following claims of sexual harassment and racism shared by a former employee.
According to Diversity Richmond, the Community Town Hall will be hosted at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, at its Event Hall, located at 1407 Sherwood Ave.
Diversity Richmond said all are welcome, and questions can be shared ahead of time by filling out an online survey.
The town hall comes after Danni Worthy-Mays, a former employee of the nonprofit thrift store, Diversity Thrift, said she experienced sexual harassment and racism both in and outside of the workplace.
The employee who the claims were placed against remains on staff, according to the organization.
Diversity Richmond said the town hall is "rooted in accountability, belonging and repair," and is first in a series that centers "dialogue, acknowledge[s] harm and explore[s] how we move forward together."
According to Diversity Richmond, no video or audio recording will be allowed during the town hall.
For the Fem in You, a local organization, commented on Diversity Richmond's post announcing the town hall, saying it would not be in attendance, as Diversity Richmond had reportedly not emailed any organizations that have spoken out about the allegations directly to request they meet at the town hall.
"They have done NOTHING we've previously requested to create the safe space their claiming to be," For The Fem in You said on social media. "They have not done anything to ensure our safety."
For The Fem In You said it created an alternate Town Hall slated to take place at the Richmond Public Library on July 23.
