Dog abandoned, tied to fence outside of Colonial Heights Animal Control

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- A dog was found abandoned outside of Colonial Heights Animal Control Monday morning, according to the shelter.
A dog was reportedly found attached by a leash to the fence outside of Colonial Heights Animal Control in the morning on Monday, Aug. 18, just a few minutes before the shelter opened.
According to the shelter, the dog was found to be underweight with a raw muzzle, with no other information known since it was abandoned.

"We understand that times are hard, we help when we are able to," the shelter said. "Everywhere is full, every shelter is exhausted, but there are right ways to do things."
It is illegal in Virginia to abandon or dump an animal, and doing so is a misdemeanor.
Colonial Heights Animal Control said anyone who knows who owns the dog or who noticed anyone trying to rehome their white Swiss Shepherd is asked to contact the shelter, which can be reached at 804-520-9397 or by sending a message on Facebook.
