‘Everybody suffers, really’: Smoke shop raided in Richmond’s East End, blocks away from two schools
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police executed a search warrant at a Richmond smoke shop on Wednesday, finding more than 22 pounds of marijuana and arresting two men. Following an initial investigation, detectives with the Richmond Police Department's First Precinct Focus Mission Team executed a warrant at the 'Gas City' smoke shop, located at 1806 Fairmount Avenue, at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11. The store is located just blocks away from two Richmond Public Schools. According to police, detectives found more than 22 pounds of marijuana and several products that contained tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Boussat has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. 8News spoke with the owner of a neighboring nail salon, Michelle Williams, who shares the same landlord as Gas City. Williams said that she saw about 10 to 15 police officers around the building that Wednesday morning. "They opened the door and went in, took a couple of people out in handcuffs," Williams said. When visiting the smoke shop, 8News saw a large hole in the front of the store from what appeared to be a shattered window, as well as a brick inside the building. Williams told 8News she had seen people going inside and taking things from the business following the execution of the search warrant. 8News asked police about the alleged break-in and if there was looting of any kind and is waiting to hear back. Neighbors in the area told 8News the business had just opened a few months prior. "It's unfortunate because everybody suffers, really — landlord's gotta put up new glass [and] he's got to find a new tenant," Williams said. "It's unfortunate [that] it didn't work [out]."
