Families in Central Virginia make the most out of snow day

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The winter storm may have brought snow and closures, but it also brought the community together.

Many students across Central Virginia were out of school on Monday, and instead of being snowed in, they spent the day outdoors at Forest Hill Park.

Several kids brought out their sleds and tubes, and raced down the hill in teams, while others opted to ride solo.

Parents who brought their kids out for a day of fun in the snow either spent the time supervising or got in on the action themselves.

Bill Vance was there to cheer on his son each time he went down the hill.

"The nostalgic part about it is that my son has no fear, as I did when I was young," Vance said. "He does not want his dad to mess up his day of fun."

The winter wonderland was short-lived with the rainfall following closely behind the snow – but the kids certainly made the most of it.
