Firefighter hurt, resident without a home after Albemarle house fire
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A firefighter was hurt and an Albemarle County resident was left without a home after a house fire Tuesday evening.
Just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, firefighters with Albemarle County Fire Rescue were called to the 1400 block of Old Brook Road for report of a house fire.
When the first crew arrived, they found smoke pouring from the rear of the structure.
One resident and their dog were in the home at the time of the fire. They were able to escape safely -- however, the fire's damage displaced them.
The two are being aided by the American Red Cross.
A firefighter sustained a heat-related injury while battling the fire, according to officials. They were given treatment at the scene.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, it is believed to be accidental, per officials.
