Food retail company to expand its manufacturing in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A food retail company is relocating one of its brand's manufacturing operations from California to Chesterfield County.

On Monday, Sept. 29, Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that Dover Food Retail is moving manufacturing of commercial glass refrigerator and freezer doors under its Anthony brand to Chesterfield. This manufacturing is currently carried out in Sylmar, California.

Dover Food Retail already has decades of history in Chesterfield and is one of its largest manufacturing employers, according to Jim Ingle, chairman of the county's Board of Supervisors.

Youngkin said that this expansion of Dover Food Retail's local capabilities is a more than $20 million investment in Virginia. He added that hundreds of new jobs will be made available.

“Dover Food Retail’s move from California to Virginia is an incredible endorsement of the Commonwealth as a hub for advanced manufacturing," Youngkin said in the release. “The cases produced in this facility will soon be used at some of the largest food and beverage retailers nationwide. With 300 new jobs created by this investment, Virginia continues to be the best place in the nation to grow a business, create opportunity and build a future.”

This project was secured for Virginia by Chesterfield with the help of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, as well as a $900,000 grant approved by Youngkin.
