Free Clinic of Powhatan to hold 5K, 1-mile walk to highlight health, movement

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Free Clinic of Powhatan is hosting its inaugural Good Medicine 5K & One Mile Walk on Sept. 27, highlighting health, movement and community.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Free Clinic of Powhatan will hold the Good Medicine 5K & One Mile Walk at 2320 Skaggs Road -- a first-of-its-kind event that will feature more than 150 runners and walkers.

“Our Good Medicine 5K isn’t just about running — it’s about showing how movement, nutrition, and community are as essential to health as the care we provide every day,” said Elizabeth Ream, Executive Director of the Free Clinic of Powhatan, in a press release.

Check-in opens at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race at 8:30 a.m., then the Fresh Start Fair opening at 9 a.m., before concluding with an awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m., according to organizers.

The family-friendly Fresh Start Fair will include health demos, tastings and interactive wellness activities, as well as local nonprofit and health organizations engaging with the community.

Attendees should expect inspiring stories from the clinic's providers about "removing barriers to healthcare," the Free Clinic of Powhatan said.

Vendors include VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, Shalom Farms and the American Heart Association, per the Free Clinic of Powhatan.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Free Clinic of Powhatan, which "provides free medical, dental, mental health, and nutrition services to uninsured adults" in Powhatan, Chesterfield, Amelia and Cumberland counties, per the release.
