Goochland plans special recycling event for hazardous waste and shredding

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Goochland County announced it will be hosting a special recycling event for residents to dispose of household hazardous waste and securely shred documents in June.

On Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Goochland County will be hosting for its residents only the Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Secure Document Shredding event at the Fairground Property located at 2744 Fairground Road.

There will be limited space for the Household Waste Collection. A list of acceptable items according to the release is listed below:

  • Fluorescent tubes and bulbs (CFLs)
  • Solvents, degreasers and cleaners
  • Flammable liquids
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Aerosols
  • Art and hobby supplies
  • Photographic chemicals
  • Devices that contain mercury, such as pool and spa chemicals and thermometers

There will also be secure document shredding for up to five banker's boxes per person, which can not be bigger than 12” x 24”. Any documents with paper clips or staples are allowed, but all plastic bindings must be removed.
