Governor Youngkin orders flags at half-staff in honor of Jimmy Carter

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Governor Glenn Youngkin has ordered all flags to be lowered in Virginia, following President Biden’s Presidential Proclamation. Around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, Youngkin ordered the flags be lowered in memory and respect of James Earl "Jimmy" Carter Jr., the 39th President of the United States, who died on Sunday, Dec. 29. The flags were ordered to be lowered immediately on Monday and will remain at half-staff until Jan. 28, 2025 -- which is 30 days from the day of Carter's death. U.S. and Virginia flags in local, state and federal buildings, and on the grounds, will be affected by the order.
