Great 8 Events: Freedom Classic Festival and other weekend events

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - On this week's episode of Great 8 events, Good Morning Richmond anchor Delaney Hall highlighted the 2026 Freedom Classic Festival happening on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Virginia State University's Multi-Purpose Center.
The tradition began on Jan. 14, 1996, and features a double-header matchup between Virginia State University and Virginia Union University men's and women's basketball teams. The event will also feature a vendor market and college fair.
Doors open at 12 p.m., and tickets can be bought on the official Freedom Classic Festival website.
