GWAR to celebrate 40 years with multimedia release, tour that will stop in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The heavy metal band formed in Richmond, GWAR, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a new multimedia release and an all-year tour that will stop in Richmond.

GWAR will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a new multimedia release called "The Return of Gor Gor," which will feature brand-new studio recordings, as well as live performances and an exclusive 32-page comic detailing the return of Gor Gor -- GWAR's long-lost, three-ton Tyrannosaurus Rex.

According to a press release, ''The Return of Gor Gor'' is a collaboration between GWAR and Z2 Comics, and will feature three brand new GWAR songs and four live tracks captured at The Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia during GWAR’s 2024 tour.

Vinyl editions of the release will include an animated etching of Gor Gor on Side A, with a semi-translucent etched deep purple vinyl available exclusively on GWAR's website.

A semi-translucent etched green vinyl and a deluxe hardback edition is available on Z2Comics' website.

All versions of the release will include the 32-page comic detailing Gor Gor's return. "The Return of Gor Gor" is set to be released on July 25.

According to the press release, GWAR will also be on tour throughout 2025 as part of the band's 40th anniversary celebration, and will make a stop at the Allianz Amphitheater in Richmond on July 24 with Lamb of God and Hatebreed.
