Hanover officials ‘optimistic’ that all residents will have water by Thursday
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County officials are "optimistic" that water service to residents affected by the ongoing water crisis will be fully restored by Thursday. At 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, the county issued a press release stating that it was hopeful that water service to those east of Interstate 95 -- who are currently experiencing little to no water flow -- will be restored by Thursday, Jan. 9. This is after officials said earlier in the day that water service would be restored on Wednesday. The boil water advisory -- initially issued on Tuesday, Jan. 7 -- will remain in effect for those east of I-95. Those west of I-95 do not need to boil their water. "Once water service is fully restored, residents should continue boiling water for drinking and cooking for at least another 48 hours as pipes are flushed with chlorinated water and tested for safety," the county said. In the release, the county said four water distribution sites will be open until 7 p.m. Wednesday: Water bottle distribution sites Atlee High School (football field parking lot), located at 9414 Atlee Station Road Cold Harbor Elementary School, located at 6740 Cold Harbor Road Sites to receive potable water in containers residents must bring with them Hanover County Government Complex, located at 7516 County Complex Road Bass Pro Shop, located at 11550 Lakeridge Parkway in Ashland "As of 4:30 p.m., the County had distributed 3,200 cases of bottled water and 9,000 gallons of potable water," the county said. Tuckahoe Family YMCA, 9211 Patterson Ave. Patrick Henry Family YMCA, 217 Ashcake Rd. John Rolfe Family YMCA, 2244 John Rolfe Pkwy Shady Grove Family YMCA, 11255 Nuckols Rd. Chester Family YMCA, 3011 West Hundred Rd. You will need to bring a photo ID, your own towel and your own toiletries. The county said in its release that a press briefing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. As the location of the briefing was not included in the release, 8News reached out to find out those details.
