Hanover Schools delays boundary adjustments meant to address overcrowding
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hanover County School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to delay the implementation of any school zone boundary adjustments until the 2026-27 school year.
Hanover County Public Schools has been working on rezoning proposals to address future student capacity needs in partnership with consulting firm MGT Consulting.
Three recommendations for how to change school zones were initially provided. In late February -- and in the face of opposition from Hanover families -- a fourth option was suggested.
It's that fourth plan, called the "Green Scenario," that MGT Consulting recommended to the Hanover School Board during its scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 11.
However, the firm also made another recommendation: that the board delay implementing any chosen plan until the 2026-27 school year.
The board voted unanimously in support of this delay during Tuesday's meeting.
School officials will still vote on which plan they will eventually implement during the board's April 8 meeting.
