Henrico County School Board to vote on upcoming school year’s budget items

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Henrico County School Board will be voting to accept hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money for the 2025-2026 school year at its meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12. School leaders are looking to accept grants that will go toward environmental impact, mental health and school security.   One of those grants will put $3.4 million toward purchasing 10 electric school buses and the charging ports. These buses must serve the county for five years, and with 10 new buses, the county must scrap 10 old buses.   Another grant focuses on mental health resources. A combined $266,000 from the Virginia Department of Behavioral and Developmental Services will be going toward the continued effort for school-based mental health services for students and staff, and training for school-based mental health providers.  And in November, the Virginia Department of Education announced it was giving 472 schools across the state a total of $12 million in school security equipment grants. Henrico County will get nearly $200,000 from that grant to install video surveillance equipment at 10 elementary schools (Ashe, Chamberlayne, Crestview, Greenwood, Harvie, Longdale, Pemberton, Seven Pines, Skipwith, and Ward).    The school board will vote on all of this and more at Thursday's meeting. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the New Bridge Learning Center, located at 5915 W Nine Mile Road in Henrico County.
