Henrico to begin annual leaf collection services for residents

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County will begin providing leaf collection services to residents in November, with both free and paid options available.

According to a county spokesperson, bagged leaves will begin being collected for free on Monday, Nov. 10, with free collection continuing through Sunday, Feb. 8.

Crews will reportedly work on a week-to-week basis in five zones, with a map available below. Each zone will be collected twice over the course of the program, according to the county.

Residents who live outside of the zones can order free pickup of bagged leaves by calling 804-727-8779.

Henrico County residents are encouraged to place bagged leaves at the curb or road's edge by 7 a.m. on the Monday of their collection week. Bags should not include trash or debris, and they must be accessible from the street, as crews are not authorized to enter private property.

The county said there is no limit on the number of bags that residents can place on their curb for pickup.

For the second year, Henrico County has contracted Really Clean Streets (RCS) for vacuum leaf pickup.

Starting on Monday, Oct. 27, the county said residents can schedule their vacuum leaf pickup on RCS's website, with collection beginning the week of Nov. 3.

RCS will reportedly pick up leaves beginning the following week for orders placed by 3 p.m. the preceding Friday. The cost for the vacuum leaf pickup service is $30, according to the county, which must be paid by credit card at the time of scheduling.

Vacuum leaf collection will continue through April 3, and final orders will be taken on March 27.

Residents who pay for vacuum leaf pickup should have their loose leaves placed on their curb or at the road's edge by Sunday evening before their scheduled pickup week. Leaf piles should not include trash or debris and must be accessible from the street.

The county said vacuum leaf collection orders will not be refunded if leaves are not ready when RCS arrives for a scheduled pickup.

Whether using the paid vacuum service or free bagged pickup, the county said residents are encouraged to avoid placing bags or loose leaves in traffic lanes, parking spaces, storm drains or ditches.

Henrico residents can also dispose of bagged leaves at the county's public use areas, located at 2075 Charles City Road and 10600 Fords Country Lane. Bagged leaves will reportedly be accepted for free from Nov. 10 through Feb. 8.

Public use areas are open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for some holidays.
