Hertzler Farm and Feed destroyed by fire in Powhatan

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Hertzler Farm and Feed was destroyed by a Saturday night fire in Powhatan County.

At around 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, crews with Powhatan County Fire and Rescue responded to a reported fire at Hertzler Farm and Feed, located at 3209 Buckingham Road.

The business, which supports farmers, hobby farmers and homeowners, was fully engulfed in flames and is now a "total loss," according to officials.

In a social post from Hertzler Farm and Feed on Sunday morning, they said store parakeets and a few chicks in the main store died. They added that their "barnyard and bunny room were able to be evacuated in time and the fire did not come close to our cattle."

In addition to the fire destroying the business, Hertzler Farm and Feed said that their Quarterfield markets and their shop were also destroyed.

Officials said there were no other reported injuries.

As of the time of reporting, fire crews in multiple surrounding areas, including Goochland, Chesterfield and Amelia counties, are still on scene assisting Powhatan County Fire and Rescue crews, investigating the cause of the fire
