Honor Virginians lost during Pearl Harbor attack at remembrance ceremony
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Honor the Virginians whose lives were lost during the attack on Pearl Harbor at a remembrance ceremony in Richmond on Sunday.
Starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, the 2025 Commonwealth's Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance Ceremony will take place at Shrine of Memory - 20th Century at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.
On Dec. 7, 1941, a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii prompted the United States to declare war on Japan and the Axis Powers, joining World War II.
During Sunday's ceremony, the names of all of the Virginians who died during the Pearl Harbor attack will be read aloud as the ship's bell from the USS Virginia tolls. Memorial wreaths will be presented and patriotic music will be performed.
