Hopewell announces Berry Street Burial Ground Project
HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Hopewell recently announced the launch of the Berry Street Burial Ground Project.
According to a city release, this project aims to preserve, honor and share the story of a significant historic site in the area.
The burial ground, which is located in the Arlington Heights neighborhood near Berry Street, became the final resting place for generations of African American residents who played a part in Hopewell's history, the city said.
Residents are encouraged to get involved through sharing stories, photos and memories, alongside volunteer opportunities within community meetings, historic research and cemetery cleanup.
