Hopewell one step closer to opening up its marina’s oldest dock after year-long revitalization improvements

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- Hopewell officials say that, over the past year, they have made significant repairs to the city's marina with several projects looking to enhance the safety, functionality and overall visitor experience for visitors and residents.

According to a release from the City of Hopewell, recent upgrades to the marina area include the replacement of decking boards along the boardwalk and several dock piers. Renovations have also been made to the two boat ramps used for launching trailer-mounted watercraft.

The final phase of this project will include and focus on restoring the marina’s oldest dock, which was closed for 18 months due to roof leaks and age related structural concerns. according to the city.

The renovation of the oldest dock will include a new roof and structural reinforcements--completion is projected by this fall.

Once the marina is reopened it will feature 16 new renovated docks for public use which will bring it up to a total of 18 docks for daily use and 26 for long term storage.

"Our marina has attracted visitors and patrons from across the East Coast, including, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maryland for many years. Now we are getting calls from individuals as far as New York," said Hopewell Mayor Johnny Partin. "This a major step forward for Hopewell and our local economy."
