How do I vote on Election Day in Virginia?

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The 2025 Virginia general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4 for several seats, including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Virginia House of Delegates and other local offices.

8News has compiled information from the Virginia Department of Elections to make the voting process on Nov. 4 as easy as possible.

What do I need to bring?

According to the Virginia Department of Elections, all voters must provide either an acceptable form of ID or sign an ID confirmation statement at the polls.

Voters who go to the polls without an acceptable form of ID will be required to sign an ID Confirmation Statement or vote using a provisional ballot.

"If a voter votes a provisional ballot, they will have until noon on the Friday following the election to deliver a copy of identification to their locality’s electoral board or sign an ID Confirmation Statement in order for their provisional ballot to be counted," the Virginia Department of Elections stated on its website.

What are acceptable forms of identification?

Acceptable forms of Identification include the following, according to the Virginia Department of Elections:

  • Virginia driver's license
  • Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued voter ID card
  • Valid employee ID card, containing a photograph, issued by voter’s employer in ordinary course of business.
  • U.S. Military ID
  • Valid student ID card issued by school in the U.S.
  • Valid U.S. passport or passport card
  • Government-issued ID card from a federal, Virginia, or local political subdivision
  • Voter ID card issued by the Department of Elections
  • Voter confirmation documents
  • Valid tribal enrollment or other tribal ID
  • Nursing home resident ID
  • Current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck containing the name and address of the voter.
  • Any other current government document containing the name and address of the voter.
  • Signed ID confirmation statement
