ICE suggests some of those detained at Chesterfield County Courthouse may have been released

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After 15 people were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Chesterfield County Courthouse while attending court proceedings, an agency spokesperson said that at least some of them may have been released.

Since Friday, June 20, ICE agents have detained at least 15 people who were attending court proceedings at the Chesterfield County Courthouse.

ICE told 8News that all were detained for "immigration violations." One person detained was appearing in court for a traffic infraction, according to court records.

When 8News asked ICE for information regarding two people known to have been detained by the agency, a spokesperson said it had no record of apprehending anyone by either of the names provided.

When asked for clarification, the spokesperson said that if someone were detained and released but never arrested, it is likely that their name would not be recorded in ICE's system.

Three people known to have been detained by ICE at the courthouse have not yet appeared in the agency's publicly accessible detainee locator system as of reporting.

8News has reached out to the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office to learn if any additional detainments have been made by ICE at the courthouse.
