Iconic Richmond bakery ‘The Mixing Bowl’ closes
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- After decades as a cherished community fixture, Richmond bakery The Mixing Bowl officially closed its doors today -- Nov. 11. Owner Tracy Stevens, who took over the bakery in 2009, made the tough call last week after facing challenges with staffing, especially leading into the busy holiday season. “I had a sleepless night Friday, sleepless kind of Saturday -- Sunday was kind of coming to terms with what was going on," Stevens said. "And Monday [was] really just making the final decision to do it." The Mixing Bowl has been more than just a business for Stevens -- it’s been a place where customers became family and celebrated milestones together. “We get to celebrate some of people’s most important life events -- weddings, graduations, milestone birthdays,” she shared, adding that many say her bakery is a part of their special memories. Though the bakery is now closed, there’s hope it might one day reopen. “I just had someone who was interested in talking about purchasing the bakery, and we’re gonna talk a little bit more this coming week, which will be really fun,” Stevens said. For now, The Mixing Bowl is closed, but Stevens will fill all existing orders through the end of the year, leaving customers with a few final sweet memories.
