Its Secretariat Day, see how Ashland honored the racing legend

ASHLAND, Va. (WRIC) -- Today, March 30, Ashland celebrated the ultimate racing legend, Secretariat at the monument in the Reynolds Family Plaza.

The celebration of the Triple Crown champion was from 11 a.m. to 4p.m. at the "Secretariat Racing Into History" monument at Randolph-Macon College.

Secretariat was born at The Meadow Farm and raised by Ashland native and Randolph-Macon College Alumnus Christopher Chenery.

Wayne Dementi Vice President of the Secretariat for Virginia Foundation shared with 8News that, "Secretariat is clearly Virginia's greatest athlete, as you probably know he won that Triple Crown [and] his records which were set in 1973 sill hold for all three races, he's referred to as the Goat greatest of all time."
