James Madison to Take on Western Kentucky in 2024 Boca Raton Bowl
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- James Madison football is heading to a bowl game for the second year in a row as they will play in the Boca Raton Bowl. The Dukes will face Western Kentucky in Boca Raton, Florida, on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 5:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN. In its third season in the Football Bowl Subdivision, JMU finished the regular season with an 8-4 record, tied for third in the Sun Belt East Division with a 4-4 conference record. Throughout the season, JMU was ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll for 12 weeks and received votes in three AP Top 25 polls. After the regular season, 13 players were named to the 2024 All-Sun Belt Team, with Pat McMurtrie, Cole Potts, Eric O'Neill, and Terrence Spence earning First Team honors. As of championship week, JMU leads the nation in turnover margin (+1.42) and ranks highly in multiple defensive categories, including fewest interceptions (4), total takeaways (26), and sacks (3.17 per game). Offensively, the Dukes average 33.8 points and 408.8 yards per game while leading the Sun Belt in scoring and total defense. Western Kentucky, with an 8-5 record, enters the bowl after a loss to Jacksonville State in the Conference USA Championship. The Hilltoppers average 25.5 points and 378.2 yards per game, while giving up 24.5 points and 397.5 yards per contest. They finished 6-2 in Conference USA, with a win over Jacksonville State to close the regular season.
