John Marshall football coach speaks on deadly shooting of Sherrod Bosher

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond football coach is speaking out after the deadly shooting of one of his players.

According to Richmond Police Department (RPD), John Marshall High School senior Sherrod Bosher was identified as the man who was shot during random gunfire on Sunday, May 11, near the 600 block of South 2nd Street. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Assistant coach Aaron Anderson said he saw Bosher two days before, during a senior trip to Six Flags, but never thought it would be his last.

“It still feels like a dream,” Anderson said. “He was set for graduation. We were just counting down the clock because he was done with all his requirements.”

Anderson said Bosher's ability to inspire others extended beyond the gridiron and he always set an example for his classmates to follow.

“[He] was a captain that told his players that he loved them more than himself, that he wanted to see them succeed,” Anderson said. “He wanted them to reach the heights that he was trying to reach.”

Anderson said Bosher planned to join the Navy after graduation. Though he won’t be here to see it through, Anderson wants Bosher to know his presence will always be felt.

“We love you, and we really miss you,” Anderson said. “Your legacy will live on forever in our hearts with the team and the school. We're here to support [your family] whenever you need.”

Anderson confirmed Bosher's funeral will take place on Thursday, May 22.

RPD said there are no current updates on the shooting but encouraged anyone with information to reach out.
