Jury duty scam returns, targets Chesterfield residents
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield County Police is yet again warning residents of a jury duty scam involving people being contacted by someone claiming to represent the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office.
According to police, people have been contacted by scammers pretending to be the sheriff's office who say that they have missed jury duty and have to pay a fine to avoid jail.
Both law enforcement agencies assured residents that they would never call and ask for payment over the phone for missing jury duty or for a court proceeding.
Anyone who has received a call like this, or a call from someone claiming to represent law enforcement, is asked to hang up and instead call the agency directly.
This is one of several jury duty scams that have hit Chesterfield County in the past several months.
