Lane closures coming to Powhite Parkway for electric tolling transition
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Multiple lane closures are coming to Powhite Parkway in Richmond to support construction for the city's transition to an all-electronic tolling system.
The Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority (RMTA) announced on Jan. 31 that construction has begun for its transition to an all-electronic tolling system on the Powhite Parkway, Boulevard Bridge and all ramps.
RMTA said the new system will modernize its toll collection process, improve traffic flow and enhance roadway safety.

The agency on Sunday announced triple-lane closures on multiple dates on the Powhite Parkway. The closures are as follows:
- Monday, Feb. 9 and Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Triple left-lane closures on Powhite Parkway northbound
- Wednesday, Feb. 11 to Friday, Feb. 13, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Alternating, triple lane closures on Powhite Parkway southbound
- From 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 to 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16: Alternating, triple lane closures on Powhite Parkway southbound
RMTA encouraged drivers to pay attention to signage in the area and use caution when driving near the work zone.
