Lane closures may cause delays on Powhite Parkway southbound
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Drivers may experience delays on Powhite Parkway southbound on Thursday and Friday due to construction between the James River Bridge and Forest Hill Avenue.
According to the Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority (RMTA), multiple alternating lane closures will occur on Powhite Parkway between the James River Bridge and Forest Hill Avenue between 6 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 and 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.
The closures are reportedly due to construction related to the upcoming transition to all-electronic tolling.
It's not yet known when the work will be complete, but RMTA said that following completion, the parkway will have automated license plate readers that eliminate the need for toll booths and cash payments by using E-ZPass transponders and license plate recognition technology to collect tolls.
Drivers were asked to pay attention to signage in the area and to be cautious while driving near the work zone.
