RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- April showers bring May flowers -- but sometimes, those showers feel like they're going a little overboard! On this rainy Friday, 8News decided to take a look at the wettest springs ever recorded in the River City.
StormTracker8 meteorologist Matt DiNardo pulled historical precipitation records for the city of Richmond.
These numbers are broken down by weather season, which are structured a bit differently from your standard calendar seasons. For the sake of these measurements, "spring" is defined as the months of March, April and May.

With that being said, here's the top 10 wettest Richmond springs on record.
- 1889 -- 21.7 inches of rainfall
- 1984 -- 19.09 inches of rainfall
- 2003 -- 18.89 inches of rainfall
- 2008 -- 16.92 inches of rainfall
- 1895 -- 16.78 inches of rainfall
- 1924 -- 16.47 inches of rainfall
- 1948 -- 16.45 inches of rainfall
- 2018 -- 16.26 inches of rainfall
- 1886 -- 16.11 inches of rainfall
- 1903 -- 15.96 inches of rainfall
The year of Richmond's wettest spring, 1889, is also the wettest overall year on record for Virginia's capital city. Over 70 inches of rain fell that year alone.
