‘Love, Amy’: Netflix documentary to spotlight Central Virginia woman missing since 1998

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Nearly 30 years after the mysterious disappearance of Amy Lynn Bradley, a new Netflix documentary is set to revisit the Central Virginia native’s case.

“I remember thinking, 'No way -- that stuff doesn’t happen to us, to Amy,'” said her best friend, Sarah Luck, in an exclusive interview with 8News.

However, it did. Bradley vanished in 1998 during a Caribbean cruise with her family. She was 23 years old at the time.

"I think about Amy a lot,” Luck said. “I feel like I'm 16 again."

Despite years of international headlines, FBI involvement and tips from around the world, Bradley has never been found.

“It makes me sad that my kids have missed out on Amy,” Luck said. “I hope that my memory of her, that I've shared with them, you know, gives some insight [in]to her.”

Luck still holds onto handwritten memories -- including a birthday letter Amy wrote her in 1993, shown below.

“I hope you have a happy 18th birthday," the note reads, in part. "Thanks for everything in the past. Thanks for being a great friend in the past. Love, Amy."

In June 2024, Luck said she and four of Amy’s close friends traveled to New York to be interviewed for the upcoming Netflix documentary.

“Our consensus is that we just wanted to do justice to Amy and her family,” Luck said. “We wanted the world to know just a little bit of the Amy that we knew.”

The documentary, set to air on Wednesday, July 16, will spotlight Amy’s roots in Central Virginia. She was born in Petersburg and later lived in Chesterfield County.

While the process of sharing old memories was emotional, the friend group also found ways to honor Amy’s spirit -- even getting matching tattoos during filming.

"If she's going to come home, we'll be here waiting for her,” Luck said. "We got a lot of catching up to do."
