Male falls into Appomattox while fishing, Petersburg first responders searching for him

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Petersburg first responders are searching for a male victim after officials say he fell into the Appomattox River while fishing late Tuesday night.

Late in the evening on Tuesday, July 8, crews with Petersburg Fire Rescue & Emergency Services were called to the area of West Street for a water rescue.

As of about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, first responders are actively searching for a male who fell into the Appomattox while fishing with friends. They have been able to confirm his last known location, but have not found him at this time.

Authorities have requested that train traffic on the nearby railroad be halted to make the scene safer for first responders.
