Man arrested after hitting parked cars, police chase in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — After Richmond Police officers tried to pull over a vehicle for an alleged traffic infraction Wednesday evening, the vehicle reportedly fled, prompting multiple police chases throughout the city.
At 9:28 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, officers with the Richmond Police Department attempted to pull over a vehicle at the intersection of 19th Street and Fairmont Avenue for an alleged traffic infraction. According to police, the vehicle displayed stolen license plates and was being operated in a reckless manner.
Police said the vehicle did not comply with the attempted traffic stop and instead attempted to flee the scene. Officers followed in a short pursuit, but halted the chase after the vehicle entered Interstate 95 southbound.
Several minutes later, First Precinct officers saw the suspect vehicle driving near Mechanicsville Turnpike. Officers continued to attempt a traffic stop as the driver entered I-95 northbound. The driver exited at Arthur Ashe Boulevard before hitting several parked cars and coming to a stop at the intersection of W. Broad Street and Tilden Street.
According to police, the driver was taken into custody and charged with felony eluding and hit-and-run.
