Man arrested after unrelated ‘road rage altercation’ at Lunenburg middle school parking lot
LUNENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man was arrested following an unrelated "road rage altercation" in the parking lot of Lunenburg Middle School on Thursday morning.
The morning of Thursday, Sept. 11, Lunenburg County Sheriff's Office Deputy Tuana Townes, while performing her regular duties as the school resource officer at Lunenburg Middle School, responded to an incident that occurred outside in the parking lot.
According to the sheriff's office, the incident stemmed from a "road rage altercation and was not related to school activities."
Deputy Townes began investigating after securing the scene, officials said.
Per the sheriff's office, no students or school employees were involved and the incident did not occur inside the school building.
The man was arrested and charged with the following offenses as a result of the investigation:
- Brandishing a firearm
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Possession of a firearm on school property
- Obstruction of justice
Deputies said there is no ongoing threat to the community as of the time of reporting.
"I want to reassure parents, staff, and our entire community that the safety of our children is always our top priority," Lunenburg Sheriff Arthur Townsend, Jr. said. "While this incident was unrelated to the school, the presence of a firearm near school grounds is taken very seriously. I commend the quick response of my deputies and the cooperation of school officials in ensuring everyone’s safety. We remain committed to protecting our schools and our community each and every day."
