Man arrested in connection to hit-and-run behind Colonial Heights 7-Eleven that left homeless man with serious injuries
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- The man who was wanted by the Colonial Heights Police Department in connection to a November hit-and-run behind a 7-Eleven that left a homeless man with serious injuries has been arrested. On Tuesday, Dec. 17, 24-year-old Dravonte Williams, of Chesterfield County, was taken into custody at police headquarters after he was wanted by the Colonial Heights Police Department for reportedly hitting a homeless man with his car on Nov. 12. At around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, a male victim was discovered with serious injuries behind a 7-Eleven located at 617 Boulevard. According to police, witnesses said that the victim -- who is reportedly homeless -- was possibly hit by a vehicle that was no longer in the area. Colonial Heights Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local medical center for treatment. According to police, due to the nature of the victim's injuries, he was later transferred to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries but is considered to be in stable condition. Police said detectives identified the suspect as Williams, who was taken into custody on Dec. 17 and charged with a hit and run resulting in injury as well as malicious wounding.
