Man charged with first-degree murder after mother shot, killed in Emporia
EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) -- A man is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, after police say he shot and killed his mother in Emporia Thursday afternoon.
Just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, officers with the Emporia Police Department were called to the area of Southampton Street for a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they entered a home in the 500 block of Southampton Street and found a woman, later identified as Angel Lucas, inside the home with a gunshot wound. Police said she died at the scene.
Officials said Shawn Wyche, Lucas' son, was taken into custody in connection with this homicide investigation, according to police.
