Man charged with first-degree murder after woman found shot, killed inside Richmond building
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been charged with first-degree murder after police said a woman was found shot and killed in a building in Richmond just days after Christmas.
The Richmond Police Department announced on Wednesday, Jan. 21, that 34-year-old Shawn Carter turned himself in to police on Jan. 9 on the charges of maliciously shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police said he has since been charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempted armed burglary and brandishing a firearm.
This comes after Richmond Police officers initially responded at 8:57 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, to the 2700 block of Hull Street Road for the report of a domestic disturbance.
Police said the call was soon updated to a shooting call.
When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Porshia Williams of Richmond inside a home who was lying down and unresponsive. Officials said she had an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone with further information about the deadly shooting was asked to call Major Crimes Detective K. Hyde at 804-646-3613.
